I was reflecting on the nature of, and journey back from, traumatic events in our lives and have some thoughts I would like to share.  Being traumatized, in essence, requires the implementation of events, either by design or by accident, that leave us feeling unsafe.  The restoration of a feeling of safety is not an easy process but it is possible to make the journey.  But how do I enter the process when I find it so difficult to Trust?

Trust is something that must be earned.  It is not something that anyone can command.  So when a counsellor says trust me, what are they really saying.  They are trying to encourage you to enter into the healing process.  Please!!!!  This is so important I can not stress it enough.  this is the time to say it like it is!  Tell the counsellor that you really have a hard time trusting anyone. and let the dialog begin.  This will start the healing process.

Another reality about recovering from Trauma, is that you do not have to re-traumatize yourself to get well.

PS:  When will someone invent spell check for this forum???

hey I have spell check on my Google toolbar that I downloaded. It is a part of every screen for me.....
so About trusting...... its hard to trust others when I have little trust in myself...... trust is something I have so little to give..... But I do face this on an on going basis..... everyday I trust myself to make right choices and to remember the past is just that the past..... I have so many moments in my day that consist of recalling things of the past and traumatic events often surface, in order for me to feel I have moved past these events I must remember where I am now... in the present moment, every time it happens. I believe that if I am to one day overcome the urge to remember the past, that I will then be able to live for the future.
hum..... and the work continues......

If you always do what you always did, you will always get what you always got...without change there is NO change.
